I know, I know, I never post. Well, I'm posting now. DRAW! Magazine #8 is coming out next month, with a cover feature by yours truly, all about how to draw hot chicks. Really. You can get it at all Tower Books, comics shops, some of the cooler magazine stores, or just go to http://www.drawmagazine.com to order it. Let me know what you think... - mh http://www.matthaley.comhttp://www.gispyonline.com

...bite-sized fruit candies. My favorite. Yes, my teeth are crumbling out of my head, but I don't care. Gimme that sweet, sweet taste. Mmm...
And, just for the record, I'm going gay. Yup, G-A-Y, gay. Had it up to here with women, they can all go hang for all I care. One week they ask you to move to a different city to be with them, you decide to do it, then they tell you "Don't move here for me", immediatley followed by "Why aren't you here with me?" then it's "I've met someone else on the same lifepath I am, we can't have a relationship"... forget it.
At least with a boyfriend I'll be able to borrow his clothes. - mh

....still working doing concept stuff for a new Nike kid's shoe line, very cool, but today I got a rush job to do animation turnarounds for some Seinfeld commercial. Yay me. Yet I still haven't been paid for the work I did three weeks ago, I have no heat in my house, my phone is about to be shut off, and the only women chasing me right now are either single mothers or out of their friggin' minds on anti-depressants... somebody please shoot me. No, wait, don't do that, I have to get this turnaround done... - mh

So, I was randomly surfing the web the other day, I come across this website, http://www.origamiflowers.net/ , which is a young artists' personal site. I browse through it, and find that she lists me as on of her influences... I couldn't believe it. I don't recall anybody listing me as an 'influence'... so, I spent the rest of the day riding high and sent her a nice note. It's so odd that civilians seem to think if you draw comics you're somehow famous! - mh

...saw KILL BILL last night, and, I gotta tellya, it wasn't all that great. Uma was really good in every scene, I totally bought her as this Bride who was seeking revenge for her 'death', but the movie itself was largely a pastiche of films I've already seen... I got really tired in the middle, then lots of blood onscreen, the first scene with Uma getting her head blown off? Ugh, no thanks... I won't be seeing Volume Deux.

... replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, "is to learn something. That is the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then -- to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting." - T.H. White

Why haven't I had some dude in a silver jumpsuit appear in a flash of light in my studio telling me I have some grand purpose to serve in the cause of future events... really, come on guys, if there are any time-travelers out there reading this, or even my future self, come ON! I promise not to tell anybody anythign you tell me about the future, (and, really, who'd believe me?) or act on the knowledge I get. You cn be as specific or vague as you like, just come for a visit! - mh

Well, I got word today that I was passed over for the concept design gig at Day One in Chicago. Not really all that surprised, considering my reluctance to move away from the West Coast, besides, my freelanc eplate is overflowing with work at the moment. Ah well. In other news, the videogame I did the box art and all the promo art for, "XIII", is garnering a ton of press, including a Hot List mention in Rolling Stone. Neat. Will it get me more and better work, since that's all I really care about?
...stay tuned... - mh
